Pacific Gold Marketing, Inc. today announced a voluntary nationwide recall of certain pistachio products produced under the Pacific Gold label. This includes all products containing roasted/salted pistachios, garlic onion pistachios, jalapeño pistachios and butter toffee pistachios shipped from September 8, 2008 through March 8, 2009. This voluntary recall was initiated because the products contained pistachios which were sourced from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. in Terra Bella, California and may possibly be contaminated with salmonella. This possible contamination is not connected with the recent outbreak associated with peanuts and no illness has been reported.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infections with Salmonella can result in the organism getting to the blood stream and producing more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. Products were distributed throughout the United States of America.

We are communicating with all of the customers and stores that received the products referenced above. They have been instructed to cease distribution of these products and remove them from store shelves. The products should be documented and returned to Pacific Gold Marketing, Inc.
